Autism Awareness Month Campaign
Maximizing Progress with Autism Partnership Method
How does APM™ help children with ASD build critical foundation and thrive?
Since 2007, the United Nations General Assembly unanimously declared 2 April as “World Autism Awareness Day” to highlight the need to help improve the quality of life of those with autism so they can lead full and meaningful lives as an integral part of society.
In respond to the “World Autism Awareness Day” and with the aim of spreading awareness of ASD and quality early intervention, Autism Partnership (AP) will be traveling to 12 cities in China from March to April, organizing a series of 3-hours ASD workshops and free 1 on 1 parent consultations for parents of children with ASD seeking for quality early intervention.
A child with ASD = no potential?
Although children with ASD have varying degrees of deficits in language, social, and recreational skills, but with quality early intervention, many of them are able to learn to fully communicate and acquire essential self-help and social skill that lead to a quality of life with amazing choices and opportunity.
With the increasing prevalence of ASD, how do we help our children?
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), also known as autism, is a severe disruption of the normal development process and is often diagnosed within the first few years of life. Autism is viewed as a spectrum or a continuum of disorders, with varying degrees of severity and levels of functioning in social communication, cognition, emotion, and behavior.
What was once viewed as a rare disorder is now recognized as one of the fastest growing developmental disorders. In China, according to statistics published in the “Report on the Development of China’s Autism Education and Rehabilitation Industry III” published in 2019, the number of individuals with autism exceeded 10 million, and the number of children with autism exceeded 2 million. And the annual rate is nearly 20 million speed growth.
According to the latest data released by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 2021, 1 in 44 eight-year-old children in the United States are diagnosed with ASD. Compared with 1 in 54 children in 2016, the prevalence in ASD is increasing alarmingly.
Since 2000, The prevalence of ASD in USA has increased 241%
Early Diagnosis, Early Intervention – Discover Inherent Potential in Children with ASD
Although the cause of ASD is unknown and there is no cure for ASD, through effective and intensive early intervention, individuals with ASD can develop their fullest potential and achieve the greatest degree of independence and highest quality of life possible.
The Autism Partnership Method (APM™) is an evidence-based approach that has evolved since 1994. In contrast to conventional ABA, the APM™ focuses on “in-the-moment analysis” and “clinical judgment” and is a highly flexible, yet systematic and compassionate approach, meeting the individual needs of people with ASD.
In this 24-days tour, AP directors and clinical team will visit a total of 12 cities in China, providing ASD workshops aiming to empower parents with ASD knowledge and the skills of effective treatment to ASD. Parents will have the opportunity to seek professional advises from our consultants during the free 1-on-1 parent consultation (limited places)!
With over 20 years of experience in providing quality APM treatments for ASD individuals, our speakers, Mr. Toby Mountjoy (AP Director, MSc, CPBA-AP, BCBA) and Dr. Raymond Fung (AP Training Director, Ed.D, M.S.ABA, BCBA) will discuss the most effective elements of treatment to maximize the potential of children with ASD during the 3-hour workshop. They will also share the APM™ strategies that Autism Partnership has developed over decades and that have helped children reach their fullest potential.
The aim of the conference is to educate parents, caregivers and teachers on effective treatment to ASD, and to share expertized ABA knowledge in terms of child’s behaviors, language, learning how to learn and issues related to autism.
Workshop Topic Areas:
- Facts and Fiction
There is a great deal of misinformation and confusion regarding issues such etiology, prognosis and treatment options. In order to effectively navigate the maze of ASD it is essential to critically analyze the issues that parents and professionals confront on a daily basis so as to develop the most effective intervention strategies.
- Maximizing Progress
Students with ASD have tremendous potential. Unfortunately, the expectations for students with ASD have historically be way too low. This has greatly affected how children are taught. Lower expectations have influenced decision on educational strategies as well as curriculum. Effective programing efforts can help our student’s reach their potential and most importantly maximize the quality of their lives.
- “Learning How to Learn”
Acquiring “learning to learn” skills is absolutely pivotal in a child’s success. It is teaching children the process of learning and is the foundation, perhaps the pivotal skill necessary for them to acquire all other skills!
- Enriching Social Lives of Children with Autism
Relatively limited attention has been devoted to the social area, and has typically focused on basic skills. Some approaches attempt to address more complex social skills, yet commonly propose experiences that merely produce social effects. Presenter will discuss why development of social skills and a social skills curriculum is critical in a good intervention program.
We welcome parents who have registered the workshop to also register for the Free 1-on-1 parent consultation (Limited spots available)!
